2020 – Beethoven year! This short film based on the song cycle “An die ferne Geliebte” Op. 9 was recorded in Baden near Vienna on the magnificent fortepiano, Beethoven himself used to play on.
The film captures the not only the beauty of this original instrument but also the splendour of Baden’s nature, which the composer loved.
The film was born during the lockdown 2020, a time of distance, loneliness, introspection. This situation brought us nearer to Beethoven’s world at the time he was beginning to go deaf.
