The Aus­trian bari­tone Gün­ter Haumer was born in Vienna. He started play­ing the piano as a child and then went on studying this instrument and the clar­inet at the Uni­ver­sity of Music in Vienna. Later, he stud­ied Lieder, Ora­to­rio, Opera and vocal ped­a­gogy at the same insti­tu­tion and at the Royal College of Music in London.

Since 2012 Günter Haumer is a member of the ensemble of the Volksoper in Vienna.

Gün­ter Haumer has per­formed the title role in Don Gio­vanni, The Count Alma­viva in The Mar­riage of Figaro, Giorgio Germont in La Traviata, Don Alfonso in Cosi fan Tutte, Ping in Turandot, Danilo in The Merry Widow, Demetrius in A Midsummernight´s Dream, Ramiro in The Span­ish Hour, Aeneas in Dido and Aeneas, Malat­esta in Don Pasquale, as well as Dr. Falke in Die Fle­d­er­maus in Europe and South Amer­ica. He is most wellknown for his per­for­mances of con­tem­po­rary reper­toire on the oper­atic stage, such as the role of Jesus in the church opera Pas­sion & Res­ur­rec­tion by Jonathan Har­vey, Amfor­tas in the ready-made opera Mea Culpa by Christoph Schlin­gen­sief and Dante in „Gramma“  by José Sánchez-Verdú . He has worked with stage directors such as Rolando Villazón, Deborah Warner and Otto Schenk among others.

As a concert singer Günter has sung  under the baton of Fabio Luisi, Gustavo Dudamel, Jesús Lopez-Cobos, Ivor Bolton and Syl­vain Cam­brel­ing at venues such as the Musikverein (Vienna), the Salzburg Fes­ti­val, the Cité de la Musique (Paris), The Dresden Philharmonic, the Audi­to­rio Nacional Madrid, the War­saw Phil­har­monic and the the House for Mozart.

He is par­tic­u­larly inter­ested in per­form­ing roman­tic and late roman­tic Lieder, accom­pa­nied by Roger Vig­noles, Julius Drake and James Ballieu.  Gün­ter is recog­nised as one of the best per­form­ers of this genre. In 2007, the Korn­gold Soci­ety and the Lon­don Royal Phil­har­monic Orches­tra Soci­ety invited him to per­form Korngold’s songs through­out Europe.

Sev­eral CD and DVD recordings, as well as often broad­cast on TV and radio. Latest CD: Hyperion – Richard Strauss Lieder – with Roger Vignoles (piano).

In addi­tion to his busy per­form­ing sched­ule, Gün­ter Haumer also teaches singing at the Uni­ver­sity of Music and Per­form­ing Arts in Vienna.
